RV Solar Shop vs Mobile Solar Installation: Why Custom Solutions Matter

When most RV owners think about a solar installation, they focus on the big components.

  • Solar panels.
  • Lithium batteries.
  • Inverters.
  • Monitoring systems.

But some of the most important parts of a professional installation are the small details you may never notice.

Those details often determine whether a system looks like it was designed specifically for your RV or simply made to fit.

Every RV Is Different

One of the biggest challenges in RV solar installation is that no two floorplans are exactly alike.

Even when manufacturers use similar layouts, cabinet construction, wiring pathways, wall structures, and mounting locations can vary significantly.

A perfect example is the Victron GX Touch display.

In many RVs, there is a convenient flat surface where the display can be mounted cleanly and the wiring can be hidden behind the wall.

But sometimes the ideal location isn’t so simple.

Pocket doors, structural framing, decorative trim, and cabinetry can all create challenges that require a different approach.

When Off-the-Shelf Parts Aren’t Enough

Recently, we were installing a Victron GX Touch display in a fifth wheel with a unique floorplan.

The desired mounting location was near the entrance door where the screen would be easy to access.

Unfortunately, the wall contained a pocket door, making it impossible to route the wiring the way we normally would.

Mounting the screen directly to the wall would have left visible wiring and created a finished product that didn’t meet our standards.

The best solution simply didn’t exist as an off-the-shelf part.

So we created one.

Using 3D Printing to Build a Better Installation

At Go RV Solar, we use 3D printers to design and manufacture custom components for our installations.

For this project, we designed a custom enclosure specifically for that RV.

The enclosure:

  • Concealed all wiring behind the display

  • Allowed the touchscreen to be mounted in the ideal location

  • Created a clean, factory-style appearance

  • Improved long-term serviceability

Most importantly, it solved a problem that could not be addressed with a standard part.

The finished result looks intentional because it was intentionally designed for that specific RV.

The Difference Is in the Details

Professional RV solar installations are about more than installing equipment.

They’re about creating a system that is clean, organized, reliable, and easy to service for years to come.

Custom wire management.

Purpose-built mounting solutions.

Thoughtful equipment placement.

These details may not be the first thing an RV owner notices, but they’re often what separates an average installation from an exceptional one.

Why Having a Dedicated Solar Shop Matters

One advantage of a dedicated solar shop is having access to specialized tools, equipment, and fabrication capabilities.

When a unique challenge arises, we aren’t limited to what’s available on a shelf.

We can design, test, and manufacture custom solutions that improve the final installation.

That flexibility allows us to build systems that are tailored to the RV rather than forcing the RV to fit the available parts.
